Janice Cormier Vessel No 7

$785.00

Vessel No. 7 - The Space Between. This is one of a series of sculptural vessels featuring architectural elements.

These sculpted vessels explore the relationship between form and space based on the Japanese principle of Ma — referring to the “space between,” a pause, an interval, a transition. Ma is not merely a void or empty space. It holds presence and potential within emptiness. It speaks to the human desire for meaning, connection, and stillness amidst movement. In these vessels, the negative space beneath an arch or staircase becomes just as significant as the structure itself. These liminal spaces express a sense of being “in between” periods of time, places, or states of being. Light and shadow play across these spaces and emphasize their dual nature as both absence and presence.

Each vessel is handbuilt and sculpted using a stoneware clay body.
